Fall Parent Academy

Fall Parent Academy will be held on Saturday, October 26, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, at Oconee County Primary School.  The theme for this free parent workshop is "Stocking Your Parenting Toolbox" - come learn some more "tools" to help you support your child's success in school!  Topics to be covered include discovering your parenting style and how to mesh with your child's personality; learning about assistive technology for young children and how AT can support learning; and tips on identifying the causes of challenging behaviors and developing a plan to address them.  Although this training is designed for parents of preschool and elementary children, all are welcome!  Lunch will be provided by Oconee Pilot Club, and childcare by AutismUGA!  Registration is required - contact Amy McCollum (amccollum@oconeeschools.org or 706-769-5130 ext. 1210)!

Movie Screening @ Cine'

On Thursday, November 7, there will be a special screening of Richard Evert's film "The United States of Autism".  This unique movie chronicles the director's journey across America, using a documentarian's eye to explore the diversity of autism, and how it impacts the lives of families.  The New York Times says the "documentary's chosen angle is meaningful:  the world of autism is as diverse as the nation".  The event will be held at Cine' (234 West Hancock Avenue, Athens) and is sponsored by ESP and AutismUGA.  The screening begins at 7:30 (the film is about 1 1/2 hours long), and tickets are $5.00; plan to attend and enjoy an evening at the movies!
